Buying guide

How much space does a home gym need in a Boise garage or spare room?

Plan the footprint plus room to move: a Bodycraft XFT needs 61 by 50 inches; the Precor FTS Glide is 53 by 48 inches and 85 inches tall with a 53 by 84 inch workout area, per its listing. Eight feet of ceiling clears most strength machines here (the FTS Glide tops out at 85 inches, the TKO half rack at 8 feet); ask us about the StairMaster 8Gx's ceiling before you buy.

What power does home gym equipment need?

Strength machines, racks and dumbbells need none. Treadmills need their own outlet; every Precor treadmill we sell new (TRM 631, 835, 895 and STM 837) needs a dedicated 120V 20-amp circuit. The StairMaster 10G runs on a standard outlet.

Should I buy used or new for a home gym?

Used for iron and commercial cardio; new for anything with a screen you care about. A used commercial Freemotion Dual Cable Cross is $3,995 against $8,699 new as of September 2026; see the used home gym equipment guide. Local delivery to the garage starts at $179 and new equipment ships for a flat $350 in the lower 48; see delivery and installation.

Questions we get about home gyms

Which all-in-one home gym do you sell?

The Hoist V4 Elite ($4,220), the Bodycraft RFT Pro rack functional trainer ($3,599) and the Bodycraft XFT ($4,499), plus the Hoist H-8 corner trainer with an integrated Smith machine ($7,999), all new as of September 2026.

Are PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells a good fit for a small home gym?

Yes. One Pro 50 set replaces 20 pairs of dumbbells, 2.5 to 50 pounds per hand in 2.5-pound steps, per PowerBlock's listing, on the footprint of two handles; $549 new or $475 for the demo set as of September 2026.

Can I put a home gym upstairs?

Many customers do; plan for the weight. A Precor TRM 835 treadmill is 420 pounds and a Precor FTS Glide 672 pounds, per their listings, so tell us the room is upstairs when you order and we will quote the placement. Put a treadmill on a mat, on a level floor, on its own outlet.
